The Museum of Fine Arts (Leopeold de Waelplaats 2)

After many years closed for renovations, the museum will reopen in September 2022.
Just call it the "Louvre" of Antwerp.

The Rubens house (Wapper 9)

The home of the most important 17th century painter: Pieter Paul Rubens.
10 minutes on foot.
On Saturdays and Sundays there is also the largest market in Antwerp: the Vogelenmarkt.

The Plantin Moretus Museum (Vrijdagmarkt 22)

Unesco World Heritage site, home and workshop of Christoffel Plantin, influential 16th century printer-publisher and his successors.
Some of the world’s oldest printing presses, books, Gutenberg bible etc.
Old furniture and some antiques are sold in the square in front of the museum on Friday mornings, hence the name ‘Vrijdagmarkt’ (Friday market).

The Red Starline museum (Montevideo street)

At the end of the 19th century, hundreds of thousands of Europeans traveled by ship from Antwerp to New York, in search of a better life.
This museum tells their stories. Very interesting. 20 minutes on foot.
Along the way you walk through the red light district called locally ‘Schipperskwartier’ (Sailors’ district).
You will also pass the MAS, the ‘Museum by the Stream’

The Mas (Hanzestedeplaats)

This lovely museum is home to several exhibits, such as an exhibit on the history of the port.
Take the escalator to go all the way to the top, you have a beautiful panoramic view of Antwerp.

Mukha- Museum of Contemporary Art (Leuvenstraat 32)

You first walk through the Hoogstraat, a nice street with many galleries, antique shops, curiosities.
Then you arrive at 'the South', with the Mukha and the photography museum.
On the other side of the square you will find many art galleries.
Even further south, a new modern city has been built with interesting architecture: the 'New South'.
Also here you will find 3 interesting galleries.
Also to see here is the law court building designed by Richard Rogers.
This is popularly known as the ‘Vlinderpaleis’ (‘Butterfly Palace’) or ‘de Frietzakjes’ (‘the Fries bags’)

Museum Vleeshuis (Vleeshouwersstraat 38)

IThe museum in the 16th century Butchers hall (literally ‘meat house’ place were meat was sold) is dedicated to the history of music and dance.
There is a beautiful collection of old musical instruments and a complete workshop showing the production of wind instruments.
Wannesvan de Velde, one of our greatest poet, musician and cultural philosopher, also draws attention here.
